Getting Involved in the Community

  • Corvallis Parks and Recreation: Offers classes in Tai Chi, Nia, Zumba, etc.
  • Linn Benton Community College: Offers community education classes on a variety of topics including arts, fitness & dance (Qi Yoga, Chen Tai Chi Chaun, Tai Chi, Zumba, etc.), and language (German, Italian, Spanish, etc.).
  • Yoga for International People and Community Members: Nancy teaches Hatha yoga, which pauses on each posture to work on technique in a kind of slow flow. She adds to the postures: stretches, muscle toning, and a mindful theme to guide our growth of mind and spirit—the original aim of Yoga.

  • International Moms Group: The International Moms Group desires to educate, empower, and encourage international mothers on their parenting journey. IMG provides opportunities for international mothers to learn and discuss parenting topics, maternal-child health issues, early childhood development, healthy relationships, cultures and customs, practice English, build community, support one another, and more.
  • Grupo Bilingüe/Bilingual Group: Bilingual Spanish/English group that provides education and services to strengthen parent-infant bonding.

  • Madres Sin Miedo, Sin Temor is a Latina Grassroots Support Group for mothers that meets twice a month to discuss topics chosen by the group.

  • Haven: Haven is meant to be a place of rest that brings moms together. Come as you are, be real and find other moms doing the same.

  • Home: HOME is a group where moms of children five years and under can enjoy support and encouragement with other moms as we embrace this joyous, yet exhausting motherhood journey together.

  • Friends of Internationals (FOI): Bridging relationships between Corvallis locals and OSU international students and scholars through weekly programs such as lunches, talk times, excursions.
  • Calvary Corvallis: Holiday and cultural programming such as Thanksgiving/Christmas dinner at a family's home, Lunar New Year dumpling making kits, and more.
  • Salman Alfarisi Islamic Center: Mosque in Corvallis.
  • Spiritual Health and Sanctuary: Rooms on OSU campus available for personal, or small group, prayer, reflection, or spiritual or sacred practice. Information on accommodating special diets.

  • Friendship Force of Mid Willamette Valley (FFMWV):  An international organization whose goal is to promote understanding, cultural education and citizen diplomacy through homestay journeys and personal friendships.  Friendship Force International provides opportunities to explore new countries and cultures from the inside by bringing people together at the personal level. Through the signature program of monthly meetings, home hospitality, local hosts welcome international visitors into their culture, sharing with them meals, conversation, and the best sights and experiences of their region.
  • OSU Folk Club: The Folk Club welcomes you to the OSU community, whether you are new, returning, or have been here for a while.  If you are looking for ways to met people and perhaps do some volunteering, the OSU Folk Club might be the answer.  We don't do folk dances or sing folk songs, but we do get together as volunteer workers and to enjoy each other's company for learning and just for fun. Host of the OSU Folk Club/OSU Crossroads International Faculty and Visiting Scholar Friendship Coffees.
