The prospective employee must:

  • Be a Canadian or Mexican citizen
  • Possess at least the degree that NAFTA mandates as required for the position’s field

Length of Status

TN status is approved for the length of an employee’s current contract with OSU, up to a maximum of 3 years at a time.

Other Considerations

TN employment authorization is specific to the position for which the work authorization is granted.  OSU cannot change a TN employee’s position without updating the TN immigration work authorization first.

Family members of TN employees can come to the US in TD status.  More information on TD status is available on the Immigration Service’s website at Dependents of TN Nonimmigrants.
