The timeline for immigration sponsorship depends on several factors, including visa type (e.g., J-1, H-1B), application category (initial, transfer, or extension), country of citizenship, location of application (inside or outside the U.S.), and whether expedited processing is available. Many of these factors are beyond OSU’s control.
When International Services reviews a sponsorship request, they provide a timeline estimate based on the specific case and current government processing times.
To begin the process, departments must request an Evaluation of Immigration Sponsorship Options for the international colleague.
Please allow at least 3 months between submitting a complete application to the Office of International Services and the intended start date of the international employee or exchange visitor.
